Astronomy
Astronomy is one of the natural sciences that studies celestial objects and phenomena. It applies observation, mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain the origin of those objects and phenomena and their evolution and or creation.
From the earliest of times mankind has looked to the stars and connected his past with the twinkling lights that moved around the heavens in what quickly was recognized as predictable patterns.
Astronomy was the hub of many ancient religions and even Judaism was referred to in ancient works of history as a cult of star gazers.
The art of Divination has long been connected to Astronomy and today even modern man often looks to their horoscope an ancient practice of astronomy to glimpse their future.
The objects of interest include planets, moons, stars, galaxies, and comets; while the phenomena include supernovae explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation.
More generally all astronomical phenomena that originate outside Earth’s atmosphere are within the purview of astronomy. A related but distinct subject, physical cosmology, is concerned with the study of the Universe as a whole.
